Initial Research 

Proposal 

This project will use the time I have spent in my placement at the Elizabeth Gaskell House to visually explore the novel Mary Barton, the final outcomes will be placed in an exhibition in the house in order to communicate and make the contents of a historical novel more accessible to the public. 

Plan for June 

1. Analyse themes in Mary Barton for visual interpretation. 

2. Visual research, documenting Victorian Manchester., pictures and sketches of mills, factories and Victorian dress. 1800's pubs, places to draw from and historic locations.
