Gaskell's knowledge of the slum and poorer communities in Manchester.

 For the next section of research, it is important to analyse not only Gaskell's written depiction of the slum communities in Manchester but how she gathered this knowledge. This research will examine  Gaskell's letters, articles from the Gaskell Society Journal, and other writings on slum housing such as Engel's time in Manchester and Manchester's most infamous slum Angel Meadow.
