Barton and the Working Class Movement Library

The Working Class Movement Library

The library was founded in the mid 50’s by Ruth and Eddie Frow both members of the local communist party, they had collected their own personal library of trade union and other working class histories and were offered by Salford council to move their collection into the building in the 1980s. The building, located in Salford, was originally a home for nurses built in 1897.

After spending time in the library as a volunteer I thought it would make a suitable interior to place John Barton, not only is it educational but the education offered is centred around the themes of the novel. The library ‘captures many points of view to tell the story of Britain’s working classes from the beginning of industrialisation to the present day.’ [1]
